Ukrainian Pysanky Duck Egg Etched and Dyed with a Heart and Star Quilt Pattern
Notes from the artist :
To begin this quilt design, I waxed on the duck egg using a small funnel called a kistka. Duck eggs are much larger than the eggs at the market. They are smooth like porcelain so it is a delightful surface to work on. Then I put the egg in an acid bath and etched it back until I could feel a raised surface. Next,I dipped it in a quick raspberry wash of a permanent dye.
The quilt patten features a heart on one side, a star on the other and the appearance of stitching vertically in the belt. The result is a subtle quilt design of lucious raspberry. You can actually feel the texture with your finger.
To assure durability, I dipped it into a strong varathane with a gloss finish. There is a small hole in the bottom so I will include a wire stem or if you would prefer, I can attach a finding on the top for hanging.
